We help our clients update their garage doors with modern remote systems.
With a new or updated garage door opener remote, homeowners can open or close the door at the touch of a button without exiting the car. Our garage door repair technicians are skilled and can make any garage automatic, regardless of age.
Steps to Program a Remote Control
- First, close the garage door, then install batteries into the remote. The amount/type of batteries used will vary depending on the exact model of the remote.
- Press ‘Program.’ This button is usually located under the cover of any universal remote system. To access it, a section of the main cover automatically slides open upon touch. On some remote controls, a lit LED light would flicker to indicate each time the button is pushed.
- Press and release the ‘Learn’ or ‘Smart’ button on the door opener; it is located at the part of the garage screw installed in the mid-section of the ceiling. On some openers, the virtual light lens would have to be removed to access the inside control panel.
- Aim the remote towards the ‘Smart’ console, then press the ‘Open/Close’ tag several times. The amount of times the button is pushed will depend on its specific model. Nevertheless, any universal remote model would include chart listings of different brands and the number of times the button needs to be pushed for reprogramming.
- Press the ‘Program’ console and test the remote control to see if it is appropriately programmed.
We provide garage door opener remotes from the following brands: Chamberlain, Craftsman, Genie, and Liftmaster.
Some Garage Door Opener Tips
Quick Response Garage Door Services advise our clients that garage door opener remote installation instructions may vary depending on the specific brand/model being worked on. Older door openers may consist of dip switches instead of the ‘Learn’ or ‘Smart’ buttons. In such cases, the dip switches on the remote must be reset to match those found on the door opener.
Most new garage door openers have smart-learn tags that simplify the programming process. Just locate the button from where it connects to the wiring feeds; this is usually next to the light flash or inside its main cover.
To proceed with such models, gently push and then release the button so that its light-emitting diode can stay on for approximately 30 seconds. Within that time, press and hold the button again on the remote control. Remember to release the button immediately after the opener lights flicker twice or two consecutive clicks resonate from the console.
